01   THE GREAT BEER-STEIN QUESTION

How much
did she carry?

A dozen Maß in one trip is a great video. It’s also a surprisingly interesting bit of physics. Let’s do the math properly.

Not just a
back-of-napkin
calculation.

We separate the beer from the glass, make our assumptions visible, and give you a plausible range—not a fake precision.

01
Beer mass

number of steins × volume per stein × fill fraction × beer density

12 × 1.00 L × 90% × 1.010 kg/L = 10.91 kg
02
Glass mass

number of steins × empty glass weight

12 × 1.32 kg = 15.84 kg
03
Total carried

beer mass + glass mass

10.91 kg + 15.84 kg = 26.75 kg

04   SOURCES & MODEL RATIONALE

How the estimate
comes together.

The calculator estimates the combined mass of the beer and glassware. These references explain the inputs and assumptions behind that estimate.

01   The calculator model

Beer mass is stein count × beer volume × fill fraction × beer density. Glass mass is stein count × empty-glass mass. The total is their sum; tray weight and movement are not included.

Total load = beer mass + glass mass

Defaults use ±0.05 kg per glass and ±0.002 kg/L beer density. For each stein, the calculator adds the glass uncertainty to the density uncertainty converted by beer volume × fill level, then sums that margin across the steins. This is a conservative scenario range, not a statistical confidence interval.

02   Why these defaults?

These product listings and beer-style ranges inform practical defaults; they are not a survey of every mug or beer served at Oktoberfest.
